Lyfe Jennings was born Chester Jermaine in Toledo Ohio. The stage name is the symbol of the time he spent in prison. In 1992 he was arrested for Arson and served ten years long behind the bar. The prison experience was enough to inspire to get a walk. He grew around people who made career detention. But doing the right thing is almost impossible with a lack of funds for public education in Toledo, and lack of work for those who serve prison. But fortunately for Lyfe he had a gift.
Following a long prison time, Lyfe appeared in Apollo. His unique voice attracted the attention of the audience members and made it a favorite on the show. The positive crowd reaction seems to be resonating outside the harlem and Lyfe buzz on the growing streets. He was motivated to move from Toledo to New York.
